The North Celestial Pole (NCP) and South Celestial Pole (SCP) are imaginary points in the sky that are extensions of the Earth's axis of rotation. All celestial objects appear to rotate around them.
The gravitational pull of the Sun and Moon on the Earth cause the poles to slowly drift or "wobble" over a period of 25,800 years. The bright star Polaris is currently positioned very close to the NCP although no bright star currently marks the SCP.
