Due to the eccentricity of the lunar orbit the Moon displays a small apparent "wobble" as seen from Earth, which results in a small movement of the Moon's surface about its average position. Although one side of the Moon always faces the Earth, this "libration" allows us to see up to 59% of the Moon's disc instead of 50%.
