A new category of object that was defined by International Astronomical Union (IAU) in 2006 following the downgrading of Pluto from planet to dwarf planet status. A Plutoid is a dwarf planet that exists beyond the orbit of Neptune. It's defined as a near spherical object that hasn't cleared its orbit of small asteroids and meteoroids and has an orbit that takes it beyond Neptune.
Currently two Plutoids are known, Pluto and Eris.
