For the Northern Hemisphere the current Pole star is star Polaris (α UMi - mag. 2.0). It's so called because it's the nearest bright star to the North Celestial Pole (NCP).

There is no bright star currently positioned over the Southern Celestial Pole (SCP).

Polaris is currently positioned less than a degree from the North Celestial Pole (credit:- Fred Espenak)
