Is an artificial glow to the night sky caused by man made lighting. When light comes from badly positioned external lights or is reflected off bright surfaces from streetlights or buildings the resulting orange glow hides the night sky. The result is that fainter stars normally visible to the naked become invisible. The phenomenon is more prevalent in large cities and towns but can also spread to rural areas.
