An unknown form of energy that's hypothesized to permeate all of space. It's thought to account for 70 per cent of the energy and mass in the Universe. Dark energy is currently the most accepted hypothesis explaining the energy and mass in the Universe that's responsible for the accelerating expansion of the Universe.
