A form of electromagnetic radiation with a longer wavelength (shorter frequency) and therefore lower energy than visible light. The IR wavelength band spans from 700 nm to 1 mm of the electromagnetic spectrum.
IR images show dust content. The best results are obtained from space-based telescopes since the atmosphere absorbs most IR radiation before it reaches the ground.
